On December 21, 2016, Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal FCA MP formally awarded certificates to 21 newly-enrolled national procurement trainers of the Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of IME Division, Ministry of Planning, at the NEC Auditorium on the Planning Commission campus.
The Planning Minister was present as Chief Guest on the occasion of the certification ceremony. Operations Manager of World Bank Bangladesh Rajashree Paralker and the Manager, Sustainable Development Programme of ITC-ILO, Ralf Kruger, were present as Special Guests with Md Ziaul Islam, Member, Socio-Economic Infrastructure of the Planning Commission, in the chair.
Director General of CPTU Md. Faruque Hossain delivered the address of welcome and made a detailed presentation on the overall progress on capacity building and professionalization in public procurement under the Public Procurement Reform Project-II (PPRP-II).
After awarding certificates to the new national trainers the Planning Minister said, “Public procurement is a technical subject; it is complex too. Those who received certificates are the talents and resources of the country.” He expressed the hope that they would contribute to improving public procurement in Bangladesh.
The 21 new national procurement trainers were finally selected through a screening and test jointly conducted by the CPTU and the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC-ILO).
With the new 21, the total number of national trainers on public procurement of CPTU has stood at 60.
The CPTU has implemented reforms and digitization in public procurement under the Public Procurement Reform Project-II with support from the World Bank. It is also building capacity and creating professionalization in public procurement.
In all, until December 4, 2016 CPTU imparted training to more than 18 thousand officers in public procurement. The capacity building and professionalization of procurement officers and training for private sector tenderers is now going on. The CPTU is also providing training to stakeholders on electronic government procurement (e-GP). |
