Title : DG CPTU opens three-week training at ESCB
Description : Director General of CPTU and Additional Secretary Mr. Md. Ali Noor inaugurated the three-week training on public procurement management for government officers at ESCB Gazaria campus in Munshiganj on 3 February 2019.

About 30 participants from 11 government agencies are taking part in the training.

While speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest the DG CPTU said that training is of utmost importance as public procurement is a technical subject.

He said CPTU has laid importance on capacity development and professionalization for the procuring agencies, training for tenderers and other stakeholders.

Under the Digitizing Implementation Monitoring and Public Procurement Project (DIMAPPP) about 11 thousand persons from both the public and the private sectors will be given training.

There will be 20 types of training for all stakeholders including Members of Parliament, journalists, tenderers and others. The number of three-week residential training batches is 115. In every batch there will be over 30 participants. There are also 20 batches of non-residential three-week training courses at ESCB Dhaka campus, he mentioned.

He said for raising efficiency in public procurement training is a must. The development projects are often delayed when the procurement process is delayed.

Dr Zafrul Islam, Task Team Leader of DIMAPPP and Lead Procurement Specialist of World Bank, appreciated the Government of Bangladesh for the development it has achieved in improving public procurement management. He said since 2002 there have been three projects supported by WB and all those have been successful. The CPTU is now implementing DIMAPPP.

Prof. Engineer, M.A. Hannan, presided over the inaugural session where Shish Haider Chowdhury, Director (Training and Coordination) and national procurement trainer, was present. Team Leader of Capacity Development and Professionalization (CDP) Richard Lorenz from ITC ILO was also present. The ITC ILO is implementing the CDP as CPTU Consultant in cooperation with ESCB.
