The 11th three-week training course on public procurement of goods, works and services organized by the Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU), IMED of the Ministry of Planning, began at the Engineering Staff College Bangladesh (ESCB) at Bausia in Munshiganj district on May 03, 2009
The training course will conclude on May 21, 2009.
The 10th course began on April 19, 2009 and it concluded on May 07, 2009.
A total of 22 officials from different government offices took part in the 10th training course, said the dean of the ESCB.
Such three-week trainings under the Public Procurement Reform Project (PPRP-II) are the part of 108 such courses to be held in next three years. About 3240 officials will be trained under the three-week courses. There are also courses of different duration.
The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), Roads and Highways Department (RHD), Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) and Rural Electrification Board (REB) are four target agencies considered under this reform project.
Officials from Public Works Department, Central Medical Stores Depot, Department of Livestock, PLCEHD-II, Planning Commission, CMMU, Petrobangla and those of the target agencies attended the 10th course.
Officials from Urban Development Directorate, Bhasani Novo Theatre, Marine Fisheries Academy, Planning Commission, Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, Power Division, Ministry of Public Works and four target agencies are taking part in the 11th course.
The CPTU is implementing four major tasks under the PPRP-II with a view to making public procurement system in Bangladesh accountable, transparent and well-functioning. The components are;
1. Furthering policy reform and institutionalizing capacity development
2. Strengthening Procurement management at the sectoral level
3. Introducing e-Government Procurement (e-GP)
4. Communication, behavioral change, and social accountability.
The objective of the project is to improve performance of the public procurement system progressively in Bangladesh, focusing largely on the key sectoral ministries and targeting their implementing agencies. |
