INFORMATION ON AWARD

Brief Description of Contract : According to the Renewable Energy Policy 2008 of GoB 1370 MW of energy is targeted to be generated from wind energy. The power sector utilities/companies will generate 600 MW and 770 MW will be generated by the Private sector initiatives. To assist in this effort, SREDA, nodal agency to facilitate and promote renewable energy in Bangladesh, intends to conduct a site specific bird and bat survey campaign at two (2) potential locations in connection with wind energy assessment. Initially selected locations are Kutubdia and Bhola within coastal regions. While wind energy has significant emissions benefits compared to energy produced from fossil fuel, it should also consider the potential negative environmental impacts of wind energy production when evaluating proposed projects. The nature and severity of both site-specific and cumulative impacts that commercial wind energy projects may have on birds and bats and their habitats in the initially selected locations most pressing issue related to wind energy development. To facilitate wind energy development, site specific baseline of bird numbers, distributions and movements at the same time information on bat roosts, colonies and mortality rate collection is required. SREDA is going to collect site specific bat and bird survey data at these sites and make a database to attract the potential investors to go with green energy business. With this end objective, SREDA intends to appoint a consulting firm to do bat and bird survey at two identified potential locations, that are to be used for assessing the potential for wind energy generation at these locations. The duration of the assignment is 15 (fifteen) months.
